And that’s how I nearly lost ₦3 million yesterday.

An organization I consult for asked me to onboard two new staff members who had just been employed. As part of the onboarding package, new staff receive a laptop and a phone among other things. So, I bought two iPhone 16s for them.

I was supposed to take the phones to the office and configure them with the organization’s email, SIM cards, and other enterprise configurations.

When the vendor handed me the phones, I realized I hadn’t converted the USD I had on me to pay for the devices. I told the vendor I’d pay him after exchanging the dollars at Wuse Zone 4. He let me take the phones without payment, as he’s been the sole supplier of devices for everyone at the organization.

I drove to Zone 4 and visited two Bureau de Change (BDC) offices before settling on the second one, which offered better exchange rates. I was on a call throughout the transaction, and that’s how I left the BDC office, forgetting the bag containing the two iPhone 16s and their chargers.

I then drove to Ebeano Supermarket to pick up some items before delivering the phones. It was in the supermarket car park that I realized I didn’t have the phones with me.

Omo come and see me driving back to the BDC office like I was in Fast and Furious. I went to the first shop I had visited in Zone 4, but the man there said I had taken the bag when I left.

I went to the second office and found the bag sitting on the counter. The man said he was waiting for me to come back and pick it up. He didnt touch the bag, He didn’t even know what was inside.
