When I left my husband, I truly believed I was doing the right thing. I acted based on the advice and opinions of people I trusted — people I thought had my best interest at heart.

But what I didn’t know was that the same voices urging me to walk away were already preparing to take my place.

Some of them didn’t even wait.
They slid into his DMs.
Started checking up on him a little too frequently.
One even had the audacity to show up at our house — around 7:30 PM — saying she came to cook egusi soup for him because “she knew he wasn’t feeding well.”

Yes, a colleague I once cried to. A “friend.”

She told my husband she would take care of him… and the kids… in my absence.

Thank God for a man with wisdom.
He looked her straight in the eye and said, “But you’re allergic to egusi.”

When she quickly switched to, “I’ll come tomorrow and cook nsala instead,” he simply gave the gate man an order:
“She is never to enter this house again.”

When we eventually reconciled and I came back home, he told me everything.
I was stunned. Broken.
Not because of him — but because some of the people who were calling and checking on me… were the same ones circling him like vultures.

That was the day I truly understood:
Not everyone around you loves you.
Some are just waiting for you to leave, so they can enter.

Let this be your reminder:
🛑 Guard your home.
🛑 Be careful who you share your problems with.
Because sometimes, the biggest threat to your peace is sitting at your table, eating from your plate.
